OPENVPN - Setting Up TunnelBlick For Use With Static Profiles

How to connect to a OpenVPN server from a Mac with the old client and a profile (.OVPN)
(this method is used for clients behind strict firewalls - and must be used with TunnelBlick etc)

If you have installed OPENCONNECT previously; you must uninstall before you continue
with this tutorial. You may also have to clear your cookies in safari as our system will
still continue to process your requests as OPENCONNECT even after uninstalled.

1.Login to the Access Server's Client Web Server and download the appropriate client config file (called "client.ovpn")
Currently server locked profiles will not function with TunnelBlick please do not use the server locked profile.

For testing purposes login to https://www.vpnpop.com our New Jersey openvpn test server for your initial testing.
From the drop down menu on the page select ("get profiles or software") enter your vpnpop details then click process request.

2.Download and install the TunnelBlick client for MacOSX via http://code.google.com/p/tunnelblick/

3.Open the downloaded disk image file (which mounts the disk image).
4.Drag the Tunnelblick icon (may be labelled "Tunnelblick.app") to your Applications folder.

5.After logging in to the Access Server's Client Web Server, download the client.ovpn file and
place it in the ~/Library/Application Support/Tunnelblick/Configurations folder on the Mac.

6.Run Tunnelblick by double-clicking its icon in the Applications folder.

7.The first time Tunnelblick is run on a given Mac, it will ask the user for the user's password (on the Mac system).
This is because Tunnelblick must have root privileges to run, as it modifies network settings as part of connecting to the VPN.
